Spring 2023 Governing Board & Committee Leadership Opportunities

Interested in joining the AAFP FMIG leadership team?

The following positions are available:

Governing Board Positions:

2. Vice-President (VP) shall include, but not be limited to:

a. Assist the president in performance of his or her duties.

b. Preside over all business meetings and Governing Board in the absence of the

President.

c. Coordinate events and meeting with president.

d. Act as a liaison between Governing Board and group members

3. Secretary (S)

shall include, but not be limited to:

a. Record and distribute minutes of all Governing Board.

b. Maintain a list of all RSVPs collected workshops, webinars, and meetings.

c. Notify members of meetings.

d. Maintain all AAFP Family Medicine Interest Group documents up to date.

e. Submit a list of all council members to the ISAO by the end of the first week of

each semester.

4. Clinical Skills Coordinator (CSC) shall:

a. Plan and coordinate all clinical skills workshops with faculty.

b. Shall work directly with president and vice-president to plan and coordinate all

hands-on skills workshops.

c. Work directly with Event coordinator and public relations coordinator to update all

social media platforms and website.

d. Shall act as main contact between faculty.

5. Event Coordinator (EC) shall:

a. Coordinate all organizational events.

b. Shall work directly with President and Vice-President to plan and coordinate

events.

c. Shall act as main contact between venues, restaurants, vendors, etc.

6. Public Relations Coordinator (PR) shall include, but not be limited to:

a. Coordinate all publicity and advertising necessary for organizational events.

b. Work directly with Event Coordinator to update social platforms, such as Facebook,

Instagram, etc.

c. Shall coordinate with Event Coordinator and Secretary to distribute and maintain

emails to members and ensure members awareness of activities.

7. Mentorship Program Chair

a. Recruit, orient & provide training to all incoming MS3 &MS4 mentors

b. Interview all mentor candidates to find those who have the ability to instruct

others

c. Pair each mentor with a mentee

d. Maintain a minimum of 4+ matches per academic semester.

e. Provide ongoing support and supervision to mentor’s/mentee’s.

f. Conduct at least once per month check-in with mentor/ mentee. This may be

achieved via verbal communication, such as face-to-face or via zoom/teams.

Indirect communication may include surveys.

g. Actively participate in all board meetings

h. Provide end-of-semester report to president of success rates or failures of

mentor/mentee relationship

i. Assist President, Vice-president & Secretary in processing end-of-semester

certificates to mentors/mentees.

j. Position may be filled by outgoing second year /fourth (4th ) semester President or

Vice-President transitioning to clinical years.

k. Must have prior mentoring experience.

8.Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement shall include, but not limited

to:

a. He/She/They will contribute to strategic planning for short-term and long-term

fundraising goals.

b. He/She/They will work with external and internal co-presidents and VP of

Clinical operations & recruitment to promote understanding of fundraising

priorities and community engagement.

c. He/She/They will enhance community relations by initiating and maintaining

key relationships with community leaders, non-profit organizations,

foundations, and volunteers.

d. He/She/They will represent FMIG in the community as needed.

9. VP of Clinical Operations & Recruitment shall include, but not be limited to:

a. He/She/They shall actively promote FMIG at off-site rotation sites. (Arizona,

California, Chicago, Nevada & Puerto Rico)

b. He/She/They shall be responsible for recruiting & retention of members,

recruitment of MS3/MS4 mentors, community engagement opportunities &

webinars.

10. Student Liaison Coordinator shall include, but not be limited to:

a. He/She/They must communicate information between the board, student

body/members and assist with any questions regarding memberships, events,

etc.

b. He/She/They shall be knowledgeable about the FMIG mission and core

objectives.

c. He/She/They shall act as a primary liaison between the governing board and

medical student liaisons.

d. He/She/They shall convey the interest and desired of the members to the

governing board.

e. He/She/They will delegate tasks to medical student liaisons regarding in-class

and WhatsApp announcements.

f. He/She/They will work closely with co-presidents, event coordinator and

clinical skills coordinator

g. He/She/They will appoint a medical student liaison as temporary “substitute” if

for any reason a board member is unable to fulfil his/her/their duties due to a

temporary leave of absence of their role.

h. He/She/They must attend all board meeting and at least . of all events during

the semester.

i. In the event that the student liaison coordinator is off on rotations, they

must all virtually events if rotation schedule permits it.

i. He/She/They must verify that all medical student liaisons have posted in their

respective group chats and to report that information back to the co-president.

j. He/She/They will represent all medical student liaison during board meetings.

The Committee

The Committee of this organization shall consist of the student representative(s) from the

international and national medical program and shall be elected and appointed by the Family

Medicine Interest Group members.

1. Medical Student Liaison shall include, but no be limited to:

a. He/She/They shall be one (1) student from each semester.

b. He/She/They will act as a primary liaison between the governing board and its

members.

c. He/She/They shall maintain in contact with governing board and members via

WhatsApp chats and in-class announcements.

d. He/She/They shall convey the interest and desires of the Family Medicine

Interest Group members to the governing board.

e. He/She/They shall attend at least . of all events during the semester.

f. He/She/They shall assist secretary, treasurer or any other board member will

their duties on an as-needed basis.

2. National Program Medical Student Liaison shall include, but not be limited to:

a. He/She/They shall be one (1) student from the national program.

b. He/She/They will act as a primary liaison between the governing board and its

members.

c. He/She/They shall maintain in contact with governing board and members via

WhatsApp chats and in-class announcements.

d. He/She/They shall convey the interest and desires of the national program

Family Medicine Interest Group members to the governing board.

e. He/She/They shall attend at least . of all events during the semester.

f. He/She/They shall assist secretary, treasurer or any other board member will

their duties on an as-needed basis.
